Missions Opportunities

Here are some of the ways we are engaging in missions to help people thrive!

Agape Women on Mission
Our Agape Women on Mission believe in the power of connection and compassion. This mission-minded group is all about women coming together to support meaningful missions both locally and globally. We're not just about talking—the heart of our gathering is action.

Each year, we dive into a variety of mission projects that make a real difference. From running a children’s clothes closet that serves families in need to spreading joy through our Appalachian Children’s Christmas outreach, we find joy and purpose in helping others. We also partner with Operation Christmas Child, ensuring that children around the world feel loved and remembered during the holidays.

But it’s not just about the projects; it’s about building a community. We pray together, support each other, and encourage one another in our shared mission to shine a light in our world. If you’re looking for a place to connect, grow, and make an impact, we’d love for you to join us on this journey!
Backpack Buddies
At First on Broad, we’ve teamed up with a nearby elementary school to make a meaningful difference in our community. Each week, we discreetly deliver backpacks to 26 kids who might not have enough to eat at home. These backpacks are packed with meals designed to get them through the weekend, ensuring they have the nourishment they need to thrive. It’s a small act that can have a big impact, and we’re grateful to play a part in supporting these children and their families. Together, we’re not just filling backpacks; we’re filling hearts with hope.
Christmas Missions
First on Broad has two major Christmas mission projects. We work with Baptists on Mission to fill backpacks with items for underprivileged children in the coal fields of the Appalachians. We also work with Samaritan's Purse on Operation Christmas Child. Our goal for both of our Christmas mission projects is to share the love and the message  of Christ  by sending much-needed items to children around the world who are affected by poverty, war, natural disasters, famine, and disease. This Christmas, we hope you'll join us in this meaningful effort.
Community Garden
We're excited to invite you to be part of something truly special in our neighborhood. Join us as we team up with the Morrowtown Community Group to bring the Morrowtown Community Garden to life! This isn’t just any garden—it’s a chance for us as a community to come together, get our hands a little dirty, and grow something beautiful right here on that acre lot at the corner of S. Mebane Street and Clay Street, just a short walk from our church.
Whether you're a gardening pro or just looking to dig in for the first time, we’d love for you to be a part of this vibrant project. Let’s cultivate not only fresh produce but also lasting friendships and connections in our community. Join us in this journey; together we can make our neighborhood even greener and stronger!

Community Closet
Imagine a place where every child and teenager in our community feels valued and supported. Our Community Closet is just that—a lifeline for many of our youth and kids, providing essential items like school supplies, backpacks, clothing, shoes, coats, and personal hygiene products.
It’s not just about handing out materials; it’s about empowering our youth to start the school year ready to learn and thrive. We know that these resources make a significant difference, and that’s where you come in. If you’re interested in making an impact, we’d love to have you join us—whether through donations or by lending a hand in collecting, organizing, and distributing these essential items. Together, we can create a brighter future for our kids!
International Student Ministry
At First on Broad, we're thrilled to announce our partnership with Elon University, where we're dedicated to welcoming international students to our community! We know that being so far from home can be challenging, which is why we're here to make Burlington feel like a second home for them.
Through friendly connections and engaging events, we aim to bring a little warmth and familiarity to their experience. Whether it’s sharing a meal, organizing fun gatherings, or simply being a supportive friend, we're all about creating a caring environment where everyone feels valued and included. Join us in this exciting journey of friendship and support as we help these wonderful students navigate their time away from home!
Knit Wits
Knit Wits: Ever wondered how you can make a difference while having a good time? Join our Sunday afternoon Knit Wits group! This friendly gathering—short for Knitting Witnesses—opens its doors to everyone, whether you’re a seasoned knitter or just curious about the craft. Together, we cozy up with our yarn and needles to create baby caps and prayer shawls for those in need within our community. And if you’ve never knitted before, don’t worry! We’ll happily show you the ropes. Come for the knitting, stay for the connection—we can’t wait to see you!
Men On Missions
Our Men On Missions, believe in the power of helping one another. Our mission is simple: we’re here for those who find themselves in challenging situations and need a little extra support.
We tackle all sorts of projects—like transforming a yard, adding a fresh coat of paint to a room, or even moving furniture to make life a bit easier.
We also take on important tasks such as building ramps for those who need them, tackling minor plumbing issues, and ensuring that homes are safe and welcoming—like repairing locks or trimming trees. And if someone needs a wheelchair, walker, or even a bed, we’re here to help with that too.
When the snow falls, you’ll find us shoveling driveways, and when assistance is needed, we install handrails to make homes safer. Our team is committed to responding to the unique needs of our community, one project at a time. Join us in making a difference—together, we can brighten someone's day.
Missionary Support

At First on Broad, we believe in the power of connection. We partner with missionaries around the globe who are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of those in need and sharing the love of Christ. Together, we not only support their efforts—we fund their projects, pray for their work, and cheer them on every step of the way. Join us in this mission, and let’s make an impact together!
Thrive Tutoring
In our Thrive Tutoring program we work with students from Grove Park Elementary school to help increase their reading skills. Each child receives a personal tutor who works with him or her each week. Our tutors work to build meaningful relationships, to teach and encourage students and to share the love of Christ. Our hope is to help these children thrive in God’s abundant life!
Women's Missionary Union
Our WMU (Woman’s Missionary Union) has been a significant part of the missions and ministries of FBC for many years. WMU offers many mission opportunities to our membership throughout the year including our annual Annie Armstrong, Global Missions, and Lottie Moon Offerings. Our Agape Women On Mission host an annual school supply collection to support our teachers.
Annual School Supply Drive
Each summer we look forward to our annual teacher supply drive! We all know how hard our teachers work, often reaching into their own pockets to provide for their classrooms. This year, let's come together to show our appreciation and lend a helping hand.
