How We Thrive

How We Thrive

At First Baptist on Broad, our mission is to help people thrive in God’s abundant life. We believe that thriving happens when people are rooted in love, supported by community, and equipped to live with purpose and joy.

To guide us in that mission, we focus on four key areas: Nurturing Relationships, Service, Education, and Worship. These values work together like the directions on a compass, pointing us toward lives that reflect God’s goodness and grace in every season.

Nurturing Relationships

We believe that relationships are essential for a thriving life. God didn’t design us to walk through life alone—we were made for connection. And when we say nurturing relationships, we mean both our relationship with God and our relationships with each other. Both are vital.

A thriving relationship with God gives us purpose, hope, and identity. Healthy relationships with one another give us encouragement, accountability, and support. Together, they form the foundation of a meaningful life.

At First Baptist, we create space for authentic community through small groups, Bible studies, fellowship events, and simply doing life together. Whether it’s gathering around a table for a meal, serving alongside one another, or sharing honestly in a Thrive Group, we believe that we grow best when we grow together. When we’re connected to God and to each other in love and support, our chances of truly thriving multiply.

Service

Service is one of the most powerful ways we live out our mission of helping people thrive in God’s abundant life. For us, service means two things: doing good work in our community and world, and helping each individual discover how they are uniquely gifted to serve others.

We believe God created each of us with talents, passions, and resources—not just for our own benefit, but to make a difference in the lives of others. When we use those gifts to serve, something beautiful happens: we help others experience God’s love in real, tangible ways, and we experience deeper purpose and joy in our own lives.

At First Baptist, we’re committed to serving our city and beyond—through outreach programs, partnerships with local organizations, mission opportunities, and everyday acts of kindness. But we’re just as committed to helping you discover your God-given gifts, hone them, and use them in ways that bring both transformation to the world and fulfillment to your soul.

Because service isn’t just what we do—it’s who we’re called to be. Jesus, our ultimate example, “came not to be served, but to serve” (Matthew 20:28), and we believe following Him means doing the same—living lives that pour out love in practical, powerful ways.

Education

We believe that education is a key part of helping people thrive—both in faith and in everyday life. At First Baptist, we see education through two lenses.

First, we focus on biblical education—helping people understand who God is, what it means to follow Him, and how to live lives marked by love, goodness, and holiness. Through Bible studies, Sunday School, small groups, and thoughtful conversations, we learn how to love God and love people well.

But thriving also means being equipped for the practical realities of life. That’s why we offer learning opportunities around real-life topics like financial health, marriage enrichment, and parenting.

One of the clearest pictures of this vision is our Thrive Tutoring Program. We walk with children through their elementary years, helping them reach grade-level reading and gain essential life skills—all in a safe, encouraging, and faith-filled environment. Our hope is that these kids not only grow in confidence and ability, but also come to know the church as a place where they are safe, supported, and able to thrive.

Worship

Worship is at the heart of everything we do. It’s how we connect with God, re-center our hearts, and remember who we are and whose we are. Worship is not just something we do for an hour on Sunday—it’s a rhythm of life that shapes how we live, speak, and love every day of the week.

At First Baptist, we offer two worship services every Sunday to reflect the different ways people experience God’s presence:
•A contemporary service at 9:00 AM in our Fellowship Hall with a more modern and casual feel.
•A traditional service at 11:00 AM in our Sanctuary with hymns, liturgy, and a more classic worship style.

We also hold special worship services throughout the year—especially during Advent and Easter seasons, but sometimes just because! We believe God is worthy of worship all the time, and we love creating moments to pause, reflect, and celebrate together.

We know that people connect with God in different ways, so we value offering a variety of worship experiences. What matters most is gathering together, lifting our hearts in unity, and centering our lives around God's presence and goodness.

And while corporate worship is vital, our hope is that worship doesn't stop when you leave the building. We want our lives—our conversations, our choices, our everyday moments—to become a reflection of worship, because every day is an opportunity to live in gratitude and devotion to the One who gives us life.

Where It All Comes Together

We thrive when these four pieces come together—when we are rooted in relationships, growing in understanding, pouring ourselves out in service, and centered in worship. This is what we’re about as a church. This is how we help each other live fully, freely, and faithfully in God’s abundant life.
